If The Scrum Guide were what a game rule book to chess is, Scrum Patterns would be a collection of game strategies. Scrum community experts have been collecting these strategies and „secrets“ for many years, and working together to document them as patterns. Even the inventor of Scrum, Jeff Sutherland, now uses them as a central part of his training and describing Scrum.

You may have discovered some of them on your own during your Scrum practice. Like there is not much of a point in „fixing“ Daily Scrum if there is a poor Sprint Goal, or that it is hard to improve Sprint Retrospective if the team does not really care about their product. Based on the context, your attention is needed somewhere else. Scrum Patterns provide comprehensive framework how to recognize what Scrum elements need to be put in place when and where.

Who should attend:

Every Scrum practitioner involved in a Scrum adoption (both small and large scale) who is serious about it. Above average knowledge of Scrum is expected and required, at least at the level of intermediate Scrum certifications (PSM-II, A-CSM) i.e. understanding of Scrum framework and a 1–2 years of real world experience. (The certifications are not required.)

About The Course:

Scrum Patterns course is a two-day intensive advanced training filled with exercises and deep discussions.

About Trainers:

Jim „Cope“ Coplien is the father of Organizational Patterns, is one of the founders of the Software Pattern discipline, a pioneer in practical object-oriented design in the early 1990s and is a widely consulted authority, author, and trainer in the areas of software design and organizational improvements.

Karel Smutný works for about 10 years as a consultant in Scrum and LeSS adoptions, mostly on Czech market. He is a software developer, Professional Scrum Trainer at Scrum.org and a candidate LeSS trainer. Scrum Patterns theory lead Karel to completely revamp his Scrum trainigs, so that students discover Scrum during the class themselves (rather than being instructed by the trainer).
